Day 3

Magnificent entrance to
 “Rio Vista” homestead

A cool night but an absoluely gorgeous day. Did a load of washing and then we went to the local Tourist Info. centre. Chose to do a self-guided tour of the history of the Chaffey family (the men who introduced irrigation etc. to this area way back in the last 1880’s). Their homestead was beautiful. We did a walk over a lock to a small island and enjoyed the scenery while reading info. plaques set out on the way. Had lunch at the old Mildura Homestead (a reconstructed farm house/stables etc.) It was quite idyllic. It took us from 11 to 4.30 and we walked to all the spots so found ourselves a little weary by the end of the day. After tea, Linda and I enjoyed a game of scrabble, while Bruce and Ian watched the footy. Bruce very disappointed not to see Essendon win! We plan to leave Mildura tomorrow and head for Broken Hill – a town which none of us have visited  before so it should be an interesting stopover. Have struggled to add photos for some reason so hope that by tomorrow I will have found out what I am doing wrong. Very frustrating, as I had a couple of really good ones to add. Ah well – it is a steep learning curve!
